For the next 6 weeks I will be participating in the One Room Challenge (ORC) as a guest designer, along with many other talented designers. We will all be transforming a room from start to finish in just 6 weeks, and blogging about the process.
Who doesn't love a good before and after? If you love them like me, then be sure to follow along here for my room transformation every Thursday. And check out the other designers transformations here.

I love the ORC because it forces you to focus on just the one room. And by focusing your attention to the one room, you actually finish the whole thing.
A common mistake I see people make when putting their home together, is trying to do so many projects at once (I'm guilty of this too!). Which leads to overwhelm and a lot of unfinished projects. Bottom line: If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed in your house, then take it one room at a time. You will see a lot more progress happening this way.
What Room I'm doing:
For my ORC I have decided to makeover my Home Office in our new home here in Mount Pleasant, SC. We recently just moved into our new build house in September and are very much still in the unpacking phase. The ORC came at the perfect time to help me get things in order.
After moving into our new house, I instantly felt the desire for new office furniture that reflects where I'm at now in my life and career. I made the transition last year from Fashion Designer to Interior Designer and want my new office to reflect that. You can see my last home office here.
Week 1 Changes:
The first change I'm making this week to the office, is ripping up the carpet and placing hardwood floors down. I am not a carpet fan at all. I grew up in a house with hardwood floors and have always leaned that way. I much prefer a beautiful rug for softness over having carpet.
It was important to just go for it and invest in the hardwoods now for 3 reasons:
No matter what I bought for the room, I would always hate it with carpet in it
If I didn't do it now, it would be something that always got pushed to the back burner
Having hardwood floors in a home office helps it feel more like a professional office and less like a spare bedroom after thought.

Plans for Room:
Other things I have planned for the room over the next 6 weeks:

New Light fixture

New standing desk possibly (I need both sitting and standing)
Some type of seating
New rug possibly (current office rug might go in guest room)

Maybe a mirror
Curtains
Special surprise to ceiling
